These beauties were cut and polished by a master gem cutter in Durango Colorado during the month of June. The cut is flawless and the Cabs have wonderful polish and are backed with Devcon for additional strength. I obtained the rough in the mid 1970's in trade for ore from a Lander County mine I worked called the Blue Nugget. It was some of the very first ore taken out of the mine. To my knowledge there is no known original rough left at least not of this quality. Some refer to these stones as Turquoise, but in reality they are known as Chalcosiderite, a close cousin to Turquoise. The New Lander Mine is located in Lander Country Nevada close to the famous Lander Blue Turquoise Mine. That mine is defunct, but Cabs from it are probably the most expensive in the world bringing up to 0.00 per carat. The black matrix is very similar to Lander Blue while the colors of the stones vary from different shades of green to blue and lighter blue.
You will see offering for New Lander, but almost none is of this quality.
The Cabs weigh 5.66 and4.90
Turquoise has been mined from a dried up lake bed in Lander County Nevada for many years and has been called by different names. The most prevalent name now is Carico and has been recently mined in small amounts by new owners. The Cabochons I advertise were purchased from the J.W. Edgar family after the original owner, believed to be Gus Stenich, willed it to them allegedly on a bread wrapper. Apparently he was tired of thieves coming on to his property and stealing his turquoise.
The mine produces varying colors from light green and blue to various darker shades of green. The Cabs are highly praised and can be very expensive. Since I am selling out of my old collection I can sell at lower prices than most that is advertised. So, take advantage of these prices as I offer them to the public.
These Cabs were cut and polished in the mid 1970's, have a high polish and are backed with Devcon.
