I received this set an an after school, Title I workshop for teachers when I was teaching summer school.  It was originally just a set of black and white worksheets.  I decided to copy them onto card stock and color in the suffix(es) up at the top of each sheet, with colored pencils.  Then, I laminated the sheets, punched holes through them, attached blue, plastic "chicken rings", and made the set into a flip booklet that could be used over and over again with a fine-tip, dry erase marker.
The
booklet consists of 11 pages that measure 8.5" x 11"
.
Each page focuses on a particular suffix(es).
The
suffixes featured in this flip booklet are the following: -er, -est, -y, -ly, -ily, -ness, -less, and -ful,
.
Each sheet has a colored suffix(es), inside a black box, in the upper, right-hand corner.  Below that is the meaning on pages that only focus on 1 suffix.  Pages that contain more than 1 suffix are review pages.  Children are not reminded of the meanings of the suffixes on these pages.  Directions are at the top of each sheet.
To use this set, children select a fine-tip, dry erase marker or crayon that matches the color of the suffix(es) at the top of the page.  They then color in the ending suffix "chunks" in each word.  Then, they read the list of words that all contain the suffix pattern.  On the back of the review pages, children are asked to write what they think each suffix means.  Upon completion of a page, it can be wiped clean with a cloth or tissue, so it is ready to be used again.
This
set can be used either by an individual child or a group of children
.
To use for a group, the pages simply need to be taken off of the rings and distributed to children.
This item
would make a wonderful addition to an intermediate classroom to be used during Literacy Centers
!  It
would also be great to have in a household with children in grades 4-6
!  I am hoping to find this item a good home.
