This solid steel mandrels are for making shapes such as bezels, jump rings, etc. They have a ground, polished surface that is heat treated. The steel is strong enough to withstand the blows from a hammer.
This bezel mandrels taper from approximately 7/16" in diameter down to 3/16" at the tip.
